Case Study

Lawn Restoration using Hydrocell substrate.

As we endure more extreme weather conditions Hydrocell demonstrates its potential in protecting future landscaping projects and lawns from decline.

How we improved growing conditions!

Kent is affectionately referred to as the ‘Garden of England’, but unfortunately for this garden in Ashford poor soil quality was preventing the lawn from thriving. The soil’s structure was largely made up of clay. Clay is unable to drain efficiently because it has little porosity, causing moisture stress in the turf.

The process began with stripping the existing turf over a 230m² area. Then the clay was broken up and mixed with sand and Hydrocell foam creating a more diverse composition. Lastly the surface was rolled and new turf was laid.

The grass is greener with Hydrocell

Each season is bringing new challenges and weather patterns due to climate change. Indeed this job was conducted during an unexpected heatwave – not ideal circumstances. After three additional heatwaves, because of good irrigation and the properties of Hydrocell, the grass is still lush and green.

Hydrocell is a unique soil medium with remarkable water retention.  Mixed into your soil or potting mix, Hydrocell holds up to 60% of its volume in water. You can learn more about this product through our products page below.

For the purposes of further research the lawn is being monitored over the following season and compared with the neighbouring turf.
